In New York's Lakeshore district, Deann Poleon has embraced creativity and innovation in her student projects. Her use of Delightex in student projects has turned conventional learning into an engaging, interactive experience, offering a glimpse into remarkable projects that have left a lasting impact on students. Below are some of her spotlight projects to consider for your classroom.

Creating Historical Connections with the 4th Grade Long House Project

One notable project is the Fourth Grade Longhouse Project. Students begin with a template and are tasked with building a scene around a longhouse, drawing from their studies of the Seneca Nation of Indians. The project includes a field trip to a real longhouse, allowing students to connect their learning with tangible experiences.

Engaging with Global Cultures through Virtual Museums

Last year, Deann collaborated with a new Global Studies teacher eager to integrate technology into his curriculum. Together, they introduced students to the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations through innovative "interviews" conducted in SchoolAI, which were then transformed into virtual museums using Delightex. These immersive projects allowed students to dive deep into history and culture, resulting in impressive student work: Project One, Two, Three.

Retelling Fairy Tales and Exploring Science with QR Codes

Deann’s creativity knows no bounds—4th graders retold fairy tales using Delightex, while 6th graders created a periodic table display where each element was linked to a QR code. This interactive setup encouraged independent learning and exploration, with students scanning QR codes to discover the elements' secrets.

Fun and Learning with Seasonal Projects

Deann also infuses fun into learning with projects like the silly Turkey Build and a playful Bunny Build, both accessible via Delightex. These projects encourage students to engage with the platform creatively and playfully, making learning a joyous experience.

Innovative Game Design and Escape Rooms

Working alongside colleagues like Mike, Deann has integrated Delightex into game design classes, where students tackle challenges like creating a Haunted Cemetery and navigating "The Floor is Lava." Another teacher in the district uses Delightex for escape room projects, showcasing the platform's versatility and potential for creative learning.

Deann Poleon’s dedication to educational innovation through Delightex serves as an inspiring model for educators everywhere, proving that with creativity and the right tools, learning can be both meaningful and memorable.
