Earlier this year, I was introduced to a new app called MyHeritage that animates photos using artificial intelligence. The app gives the illusion that the person in the picture comes to life as the eye, mouth, expressions all move in realistic manners. The MyHeritage app was not only interesting but somewhat spooky because the AI makes the animated image look so real.
Of course, some of the first images I uploaded into the app were from past family members who are no longer with us. The experience brought up memories and feelings of remembrance as I watched my dad and grandparents look around, smile, and overall look peaceful. It didn’t take long before the idea of viewing these experiences using augmented reality came to mind.
Using the CoSpaces app, I could load those animated photos onto a Merge Cube and literally hold my family tree in my hand. The results were astonishing.
Following this project, I was interested in showcasing my Choctaw Nation Chiefs in the same way. Since the first Chief’s trackback to the late 1800s, some of the images were drawings, and those images even came to life (shown below in the bottom two images).
I had the opportunity to include these experiences and many more in my new AR and VR courses on the Verizon Innovative Learning HQ. Not only are my lessons free, but ALL the lessons are available to everyone. Sign up for your own account at vz.to/3rod0UB.
