CoSpaces EDU has recently introduced a new feature that allows users to upload 3D models directly from their mobile devices. This feature makes it easier for educators and students to create and share immersive experiences without needing a computer. This is especially helpful with classrooms that only use iPads. With the ability to upload 3D models from anywhere, CoSpaces EDU is making it easier for students to bring their ideas using augmented and virtual reality.
In the video example, I demonstrate capturing a beach scene using the Metascan app. The app uses LiDAR technology (or photos) to capture an object and converts it into multiple formats (with a paid subscription). After saving the 3D objects in my files on my mobile device, I opened CoSpaces and uploaded the FBX file. CoSpaces allows multiple formats: OBJ, MTL, FBX, ZIP, GLTF, and GLB.
Steps to get started
Capture a 3D object on your mobile device (search through these blogs to pick a resource).
Save the file in your files on your mobile device.
Open the CoSpaces app and select Upload at the bottom of the screen.
Change the drop-down to "3D models" and select the "Upload" button.
Find the 3D file in your files.
Drag the item into the scene.
View in AR or VR!
