Hacking Nearpod - Day 3 #31DaysofARVRinEDU

Hacking Nearpod

I’m thrilled to provide the #31DaysofARVRinEDU event! Each day in March will include an augmented (AR) or virtual reality (VR) resource to bring into the classroom.

I had the pleasure of presenting a session at the Nearpod Transform event last weekend with Rachelle dene Poth. Our presentation was titled, “Hacking Nearpod.” I was surprised to see the session accepted for the pre-conference for the PioNears (ambassador program). The session was really about finding ways to make Nearpod personalized for your classroom.

The way I approached the session was through app smashing. Since Nearpod offers a browser in the lessons, a few immersive technology resources can be incorporated. Similar to a Chromebook, the web-based tools can be experienced in the browser within Nearpod. Check out the following resources listed below and feel free to evaluate our lesson for your professional development.

YouTube 360

Add 360 videos in Nearpod by using the YouTube filter. While it may seem that you’re limited by 360 images only, you have access to a massive library of 360 videos on YouTube. Search for the 360 videos that connect to your content area and copy the link to add in your Nearpod lesson. If your students are using a mobile device, they will be directed to open the video in the YouTube app.

While Nearpod offers many different 360 experiences from 360cities, our students can build their own VR tours using RoundMe. Load 360 images (created in Google Street View) and add hotspots, VR portals, and directional sound.

Use the app & web-based site to create augmented and virtual reality. Students from kindergarten to college level can create fantastic content from simple drag and drop to CoBlocks to HTML coding.

I hope you find ways to personalize your Nearpod lessons using immersive technology! Feel free to explore the Nearpod lesson below.
