    Day 25: Reality Composer

    Day 25: Reality Composer

The Reality Composer app was released by Apple last September as an augmented reality creation tool. The app is available to create on an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook. The app can be as simple as adding a 3D object and viewing it in AR or as complex as animating it, changing the physics of the movement, or even connecting items with body tracking. Below is an image of the promotion I created for the ARVRinEDU chat after the app was first released. Creating content in Reality Comp

Day 23: 3D AR Maps Mapbox

I ran across this resource a few years ago and shared it with the ARVRinEDU community in our weekly chat. The 3D AR Maps caught my attention because it’s incredibly easy to use, quick to search, and fun to explore. After playing with this app for a little while, you’ll feel like a globetrotter. When opening the app, it uses your current GPS location to display your position in augmented reality from a birds-eye view. Place the map on your table, the floor, or anywhere you’d l

    Day 20: Storyfab

The Storyfab app (iOS) has been around for a little while, but when Apple pushed all developers to update apps to stay in the App Store, it went away for a little while. Thankfully, the app is back and offers the great augmented reality storytelling feature our classrooms are sure to use. In the Storyfab app, a student can add characters and props to a scene on top of an image of choice. The first step is finding a specific image that offers contrast in colors to be the trigg

    Day 18: Coding Club

Recently, I received access to a beginner’s AR coding app called Twinkl Little Red Coding Club. At first glance, it seemed pretty simple. Now that I’ve had a chance to test and explore a bit, I learned how much this app has to offer. The app is themed around a story we all know well, Little Red Riding Hood. The user can build and create code on their own, or they can select the multiuser option to play with a friend as the host or to join another group. A total of four studen

    Day 17: Identific 3D-ID

I’ve recently come across a resource to create an augmented reality business card with contact links called 3D-ID. The Identific site provides a simple platform to link the viewer to your preferred social channels, email, and website. I’m going to share the simple steps to view my 3D-ID business card and create your own. This resource uses WebAR, so no app to install! All of these options are free. View my 3D-ID business card with your MOBILE DEVICE. 1. Scan this QR code 2.

    Day 16: Kai's Clan

The Kai’s Clan products have been making a big impression in 2020 and rightfully so! The New Zealand based robotics company is doing something quite unique. They’ve managed to make a product that combines robots, coding, augmented reality, virtual reality, and they’ve succeeded in doing it in a multiplayer game! I've had a chance to collaborate with David Lockett as his middle school students have used Kai's Clan extensively in classroom activities and presented their work to

Day 15: Face Replaced + WINNER

I’ve recently come across a new app that is currently in the beta testing phase by 20/20 Computer Vision. The Face Replaced app allows you to take photos or load images from your camera roll and use them as a filter on your face. The app is using the depth sensors on your iPhone or iPad to place the image on your face using your expressions to modify the character. Last year, I shared another app from the 20/20 Computer Vision company in our weekly #ARVRinEDU chat. The YoPupp

    Day 14: Explore Interactive

If you haven’t seen the magic of Explore Interactive, you’re going to love this post! The app uses interactive cards to bring a gamified, augmented reality experience on the topic of energy. This app is the first release of content, and more topics are to come in the future. The app has two special characters (robots) that support you in using the app to solve problems as they come. Our two robot guides, Atom and Anne, help lead the students to move forward in the app and lea

    Day 13: Narrator AR

I’ve recently been introduced to an augmented reality app by my friend, Debra Atchison. The Narrator AR app stresses the importance of penmanship. Students will put fine motor skills to the test as they write their letters, numbers, words, and personalized names. Using the Narrator AR app, students see the process of writing letters and numbers correctly. Surprisingly, it seems that fewer students are taught the direction that should write. As a parent of a daughter who has d

    Day 12: Insight Heart

I heart the ARVRinEDU community so much that I’m going to share a tool that will give you a new perspective on your health. The Insight Heart app has been my go-to app when sharing heart health. While other AR apps show the heart, this particular app was unique because it connects to my Apple Watch. On a personal note, heart health is important to me because my father passed away from a heart attack in his early 50’s. I try to be aware of my blood pressure and heart rate when

    Day 11: New Curiscope Multiverse

I've been a fan of the Curiscope company since the release of their augmented reality shirts (Virtuali-tee). The connection to augmented reality and relevant learning experiences is critical. Although there are many options to view anatomy in AR, seeing the anatomy come to life on a person provides a more in-depth understanding. The Curiscope team has been busy these past few weeks with the release of their latest project, the Multiverse. Viewing the Multiverse posters, the s

    Day 7: ScavengAR

It's been a busy week as we've explored new augmented and virtual reality resources for the classroom. The adventures continue as we jump into augmented reality scavenger hunts! A while back, I was searching for augmented reality scavenger hunt apps to share at conferences. I typically share Waypoint EDU because of the built-in content and the option to upload your questions. I ran across an app that incorporated both augmented reality in the hunt and machine learning called

    Day 6: MEL Science

I had the honor of attending and presenting at the EdCrunch conference in Moscow this past fall. While visiting, I met with some of the MEL Science team and discussed their innovative products. I didn’t quite grasp all they were explaining to me at the time but later received three boxes in the mail with the MEL Kids products and their MEL Chemistry experiments. Fast forward three months, I finally opened the kits as I was preparing for spring conferences. I decided to test o

    Day 5: Dr. Seuss's ABC

Talk about brand new, the Dr. Seuss’s ABC app (iOS & Android) was released yesterday! This magical learning experience connects what we all know about Dr. Seuss’s books and places the creative stories in our world using augmented reality. Each virtual page describes the letter with the characters from the book. The best part of the app is finding the interactions to explore. Each letter has a different visual, character, and interaction. The app is the first augmented reality

    Day 4: Minecraft Earth

I’ve been sharing Minecraft Earth since it was released because it is a truly incredible experience. There is no way I can cover all the components of the app in a single post, but I can show you some of the elements that are important to get started. The app has many of the same elements of Minecraft in this app, with a few variations. One of the differences in how students can collect items (mining) is similar to Pokemon Go. The app allows students to collect things around

    Day 3: DrawmaticAR

I have an interesting story about my connection to the DrawmaticAR app. I frequently research the latest augmented and virtual reality apps being released and found a DrawmaticAR video explanation. I was so excited to share this tool for our students, but after downloading the app, it didn’t work. I researched several days before finding the developer on LinkedIn and sent a message about the app. Yosun Chang explained that she created the app for a contest and took it down be

    App Smashing with EyeJack

I have the wonderful honor of being included in the Ditch Summit by Matt Miller. I briefly shared the what, how, why and what on educational immersive technology in the short video. After the video was released, I received many amazing Twitter posts about the content. One of those posts came from sketchnoter, Jen Giffen. The sketchnote captured the important parts of the discussion including the purpose and plan to get started with augmented and virtual reality. After reviewi

    Google Expeditions VR + AR

As many of you know, I rarely share Google Expeditions because so many educators already share out these resources. Some recent updates have brought back my excitement for the tool, and I'm happy to share this out with the ARVRinEDU community! CHROMEBOOKS The more I share immersive technology around the country, I find more and more schools are purchasing Chromebooks in their device refresh. The technology department loves the cost and setup with Chromebooks, but I'm sad to

June is a busy month with the end of the school year activities, summer vacations, and EdTech conferences. I have a few conferences I plan to attend in June, and one special event that I look forward to all year long! I'm excited to share augmented and virtual reality events at ISTE this month. If you haven't heard of ISTE, it's an international conference held each year in various locations around the country. The conference this year is located in Philadelphia and pulls in

I’m thrilled to provide the #31DaysofARVRinEDU event! Each day in March will include an augmented (AR) or virtual reality (VR) resources to bring into the classroom. I've saved one of my favorite ARVRinEDU tools for last! While MERGE has gained awareness these past few years on their headset and cube, the new release of the EDU Platform coming this week is going to blow your mind. What is a MERGE Cube? The MERGE Cube is made of a foam material that is small enough to fit in
